Introduction to Marble Making
(2 day class)

Description:

This class will teach students the basics needed to make marbles out of borosilicate glass. We will cover many different designs and techniques including implosion. flower, corkscrew, dichroic, vortex, using opals, and more.

Beyond Beads
(2 day class)

Description:

This class will introduce the student to the techniques involved in making pendants and marbles.

Day one will cover basic pendant shapes and multiple ways to make loops on pendants.  Students will learn to manipulate and develop consistent color, use clear to amplify designs and make color go farther, and ways to get multiple colors from a single color of glass.  The use of dichroic glass and fuming with silver and gold (subject to adequate ventilation) will also be covered.  Pendant designs learned will include implosion, flower, galaxy, vortex, and many more.  Requests for certain techniques will be demonstrated if time permits.

Day two will take the designs learned in day one and transform them into a marble shape.  Students will learn marble construction and shaping, surface decoration, and more.

Blown Beads
(2 day class)

Description:

This class will introduce students to working with hollow borosilicate beads.  Day one will cover pulling points from tubing, blowing and condensing bubbles, coil potting, and other hollow techniques.  We will also cover some basic tubing decoration and shaping.  Day two will introduce students to flaring and inside out work.  Students must be comfortable working with larger amounts of glass.  Fuming with gold and silver will also be covered (subject to appropriate ventilation)

Borosilicate Beads
(1 day class)

Description:

If you have wondered about borosilicate glass, but been afraid to try it, or have tried it and not had the results you wanted, this class is for you!  This class is intended to be an introduction to using borosilicate glass.  We will discuss the different types of borosilicate color and talk about their properties in the flame and in the kiln.  The primary focus of the class will be the development of color consistently – a subject which is often frustrating to people new to borosilicate glass.  We will also talk about using frits and powders, encasing, shaping, and other techniques.  Students should have prior experience making beads, but previous borosilicate experience is not required.  Students who have tried borosilicate before and have not been happy with the results are encouraged to bring pieces to class.  We will discuss how to prevent problems and undesired results as time allows.

Borosilicate Pendants
(1 day class)

Description:

This class will focus on making pendants out of borosilicate glass. Students will learn techniques such as frit, implosions, drops, flowers, and more. We will cover several different ways to make a loop, and talk about color layering and effects. We will also talk about developing color both in the flame and in the kiln. Students should have prior experience lampworking, but previous borosilicate experience is not required.
